Leith is a district and former municiple burgh situated north of the Capital City Edinbourgh at the mouth of the Water of Leith. It serves at Edinbourgh's port. Leith and Edinburgh were once separate towns, but growth over the years has created one large urban conurbation. As the Port of the Capital of Scotland, Leith has played an important role in shaping its history. Mary Queen of Scots ruled from Leith. Later Oliver Cromwell had his headquarters there for the Neq Model Army. The remains of a batlefield can be found in a park called Leith Links. The grassy mounds here mark where once stood cannon emplacements.
