Overview of Bushey

The town of Bushey is located Northeast of Heathrow Airport a journey of 25 miles that would take around 30 minutes by taxi via the M40 and M25. It is located in the borough of Hertfordshire, Bushey Heath is situated to the Southeast of Bushey on the boundary with the London Borough of Harrow and has a population of 24,000. It is situated on the edge of Watford with other nearby towns of Stanmore, Radlett and Borhamwood. In the Domesday book it was called by the name 'Bissei' thought to mean 'place covered with wood'.

The town grew since the introduction of the Railways in the early 20th Century, with the town population increasing also due to its close location to Watford. Because of the conditions of the land the area was not used for agriculture and so remained a heavily wooded area up until the 18th Century, much of its legends involve tales of highway men and theives that frequented the road from Bushey Heath to Stanmore.

The town retains a small town feel with busy high street of shops, cafes and pubs. The town hosts a Festival, Marathon and horicultural flower show and has some notable historic buildings such as Royal Masonic School for Boys, history of the area can be learned at Bushey Museum situated near the high street. Places to go in the surrounding areas would be the ancient town of St Albans, Hatfield and Waltham Abbey. Some places to go for family days out could include Chenies Manor Tudor house and gardens, Aldenham Country Park for walks and water sports and Planet Ice in the nearby town of Hemel Hempstead.
