Overview of Ashford

The town of Ashford is in the borough of Ashford in the region of Kent and it lies on the Great Stour river, from Heathrow it takes approx 1.5 hours to cover the 85 mile distance to reach the town voted the fourth best place to live in the UK in 2005. Its name means Ford by a clump of Ash trees. On either side of the town lie the towns of Canterbury and Royal Tunbridge Wells, with Maidstone and Folkestone also being neighbours.

Much of the old town has been changed to make way for the new and it has increased in size with regards to Industry, Retail and businesses in the town it being so closely situated to London has added to this. There is a designer retail outlet, shopping precinct and some of the remaining old town with its half timbered buildings of Middle Row sure to interest visitors. Nestled in the renouned Kent countryside the known as the Garden of England the town has kept its rural appeal aswell as being able to satisfy the contempory taste. The Willesborough Windmill is a must-see, aswell as Ashford Borough Museum and Godington House and Gardens. Take advantage of the Heritage Trail that leads you through the old town and its marvellous architecture, old jail, fountain and eccentric landmark of a war tank. A place to take a peaceful break would be in the memorial gardens an ideal place to rest after all of the shopping and coffee drinking in the many cafes and coffee shops in the town.

Other facilites to go to whilst staying in Kent are to be found at Eureka leisure with its cinema, restaurant and nightclub or go to Ashford Bowling centre for some bowling fun.
