Situated in Aberdeenshire, Inverurie has a population of 10885 according to the 2001 census. It is the largest town in the Aberdeen Garioch areas. Popular features of the town are the rivers Ury and Don and the motte of Inverurie that is known as the Bass, a natural earth mound that used to support a timber castle. The town is very interesting place to walk and explore and there is much evidence to show that it was once a prehistoric settlement steeped in neolithic history. Take a visit to the Carnegie Museum to have a look at the many archeological finds from the area.
To see one of the most elaborate castles in Scotland with a tower an amazing seven stories high, Castle Fraser is not very far away in Sauchen, Inverurie. Surrounded by woodlands, the castle was built in the fifteenth century by the Laird, Michael Fraser. Further afield about an hour away is the Cairngorm Mountain range, where you can take a relaxing trip from the bottom to just below the summit of Cairn Gorm mountain by railway to enjoy the amazing and breathtaking views.
There is a variety of places to eat out in Inverurie ranging from Thai, Indian, Chinese cuisine to traditional pub food, aswell as take-aways. For shopping there is a Market, Farmers Market, weekly Car Boot Sale,and locally run modern retail shops.
