Famously know for Glastonbury Festival held in Pilton just 7 miles out of the town. The festival is held yearly and thousands of people come from all over the country and the world to camp in the fields and listen to the variety of music and entertainment. The town has many places to visit for tourists and visitors who have a choice of several places to go within a small area. Glastonbury Abbey is one of the most popular attractions being the ruins of what once was the richest Abbey in England. With exciting constumed guide tours of the grounds you can see its beautiful ponds and orchards and go into the Abbey kitchen. A short distance away is Chalice Well which is one of Britains most ancient wells and a quiet sanctuary to visit for its beautiful gardens and water springs, the iron-rich water is said to have healing properties. Approaching the town itself it is difficult not to notice the Glastonbury Tor, which is referred to as a holy hill. Its steepness allows it to be visible from most areas of the town with a single tower standing at the top that was once part of the Chapel of St Michael de Torre. Now owned by the National Trust, visitors climb the pathway to take in the breathtaking views of Somerset, here early in the morning the famous mists of avalon are best seen and often people go up to see the sunrise particularly during the summer solstice.

Glastonbury has been known as a sacred site over the ages and there is history linked to Joseph of Arimathaea who it is said was a pilgrim to the town, Celtic Druids and Arthurian legend. The town itself is also interesting to explore its quirky gift shops and cafes, a weekly farmers market is held in the Town Hall and also a small street market.

There are many places to eat in Glastonbury and many cafes to choose from to break from browsing around the shops. Strode Theatre has a variety of performances of music and dance, exhibitions and films to enjoy.
