Overview of Amersham

The town of Amersham is located East of Bristol airport a distance of 122 miles that would take around 2 hours 21 minutes by taxi via the M4 and M40. The town has a population of 17,719 and the town is made up of two areas Old Amersham and Amersham on the Hill. The newest area of the town gradually grew with the establishment of the railway line in 1892. The town has a history of manufacture in brick-making, lace, tanning and beer brewing.

The old town is an interesting place for visitors going back as far as pre saxon times, its architecture represents the period of 17th and 18th Century england with its black and white half timbered buildings with one or two dating back to the 15th century which are still very well preserved. The new town differs slightly in being more modern with shopping centre, Library and Chiltern Pools. Places of interest include Amersham Museum with original Tudor building and interactive displays, Junior Indoor climbing and Chesham Heated Open-Air Pool. Take a stroll around Harvines Park with playgrounds and indoor activities for kids, or look around the shops, galleries, pubs and coffee shops that are in the town along with its variety of Restaurants and bars.

There are a number of primary and secondary schools in the area but Amersham is widely known for its college - the Amersham and Wycombe college which is accessed by residents of other neighbouring towns for its range of courses it has to offer for students. Two of the towns pubs have been used in the filming of Four Weddings and a Funeral, and famous people that come from Amersham include Tim Rice, Bill Pertwee, Roger Moore and Zoe Ball who attended Amersham College.
