Overview of Addlestone

The town of Addlestone is located North West of Gatwick airport a distance of 32 miles that would take around 36 minutes by taxi via the A25 and M25. It is situated in the borough of Runnymede in the county of Surrey.

The name is likely to mean "Attel's Denu"; the valley belonging to a saxon named Attel. In 1241 the place was listed as Attelsdene and by 1610 John Spede's map shows Addlestone as just south of the Thames. Addlestone is mentioned in H.G Wells' book The War of the Worlds, in which the second of ten Martion invasion ships landed at Addlestone Golf Links. 'The Crouch Oak' finds its home in Addlestone, it's an oak tree believed to have originated in the 11th Century. Legend says that Queen Elizabeth I stopped by it and had a picnic. It is also used to mark the boundary of Windsor Great Park.

Addlestone is a great place to stay for keen golfers, as it is in easy reach of Queenswood Golf Course, Old Burhill Golf Course, Silvermere Golf Corse and Sunbury Golf Course. Though with its easy access to the M25 you are also able to visit attractions in the surrounding area such as The Brooklands Museum, Mercedes-Benz World, Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures and Hampton Court Palace.
