Overview of Buckie

The town of Buckie lies Northwest of Aberdeen Airport a distance of around 58 miles in the Burgh of Moray stretching for 3 miles along the Moray Firth Coast. It has a population of 8,059 according to the 2001 Census. It was once the largest town in Banffshire, the fishing communities still operate Cluny Harbour a major feature of this fishing town and gained a reputation over the years for its shipbuilding. The towns Buckie District Fishing Heritage Museum is the perfect place to learn about the history of fishing in Buckie and the Moray coast. Today much of the industry revolves around food packing and processing and the area is known for its shellfish.

The nearest railway station is in Keith that serves the Aberdeen-Inverness line, there are also buses that go to Aberdeen, Elgin and Inverness. The town has a twin spired Roman Catholic Church amongst several other churches of outstanding architecture at various locations. Visitors can take a boat trip on the Moray Firth to see the dolphins dance and play, porpoises, seals and Minke Whale. Exploring the coast can be done by foot aswell by taking one of the Moray Coast Trails such as the one from Buckie to Cullen where you will get to visit the Bow Fiddle Rock down to the sandy beach.

There are 4 primary schools and a high school in Buckie itself with many more in the surrounding village communities.
