Overview of Welwyn Garden City

Welwyn Garden City is a town in Hertfordshire and is situated 33 miles north of London City Airport. This journey normally takes 55 minutes in normal traffic conditions. It has a population of 43252 according to the 2001 census and is situated between Hatfield and Stevenage. This Garden City was designed by Sir Ebenezer Howard in the 1920s and created to be a combinaton of city and nature surrounded agricultural land for a better quality of living. There is a main boulevard running through the centre of the town with older houses on the West side and newer ones on the East. The Howard centre is the main indoor shopping facility in the neo Georgian styled town centre, with the train station nearby. The town itself is attractively designed with tree lined boulevards and a fountain and lawns in the centre. There are a number of Golf Courses and Gosling Sports Park for many sports and leisure activities. Stanborough Park, on the outskirts of the town has beautiful parklands and lakes with a restaurant on the waterfront. There is alot to do such as a nature trail, fishing and walking.

Campus West entertainment centre in the town has a Skating Rink, cinema, Gallery, Theatre, Cafe and Bar. Sherrardspark Wood on the edge of the town is an excellent route for walkers and Brocket Hall, the Barn Theatre and Welwyn Roman Baths are excellent places of historical interest. There are a number differently themed restaurants and pubs to choose from in the town itself and the neighbouring towns of Hatfield, St Albans and Hemel Hempstead are interesting places to visit.
