Situated in Fife, St Andrews has a population of 14209 people according to the 2001 Census. Today it is a thriving coastal town famous for its Golf and University. It is widely known as the home of golf and the famous British Open Golf Championship that is held every five years. There is also The Royal and Ancient Golf Club that is the place to go to get useful information on the game and is recognised as the governing body on the rules of golf by most of the world.

The University of St Andrews was founded in 1410 and is the third oldest university in Britain and the oldest in Scotland. The University is famous for conducting ground breaking research and is a highly rated university for prospective students. It has its own Museum showcasing historical relics founded over the centuries. Around the town are many attractions such as the Castle, Cathedral and Museum. Other than history there are many independant and family run shops to visit whilst strolling around the picturesque town. There is also many Restaurants, Hotels, Pubs and Cafes in the town appealing to all tastes. Another option while in St Andrews is to take in the sun, sea and sand and taking a walk at St Andrews Bay. There is also a leisure centre at the East Sands for a more active choice.

Fife airport is not far from St Andrews located in Glenrothes, this has mainly light aircraft and is about 40 minutes away. Dundee airport is 30 minutes drive to the north by car and runs daily charters to London airports. The closest ferry is located at Rosyth, about an hour to the South by car.
