Overview of Lymington

Lymington is a town in Hampshire and only 16 miles from Bournemouth airport. This journey should take about 30 minutes by taxi in normal traffic conditions. From Bournemouth airport a direct route into Lymington would be the B3055. Known as a New Forest town Lymington is only 29 miles from Salisbury, 20 miles from Southampton and 30 miles from Winchester.

Lymington is a beautiful Georgian market town neighbouring the New Forest in Hampshire and situated between Bournemouth and Southampton. Lymington has a population of about 14000 residents according to the 2001 Census. Its Port is on the Solent and is a favourite for Yachting enthusiasts and ideal to take the ferry for a short break over to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. An interesting and historical place to visit would be church of the town the church of St Thomas the Apostle some features dating to be 600 years old. Another place of historical interest is the St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery. The collections of artefacts, photographs and art relate to the area with themes such as smuggling that took place along the coast in the 18th Century, Salt making, Boat building and the War efforts of the area. The quaint shops in the town itself are excellent for browsing and there is a Saturday Market that stretches the whole length of the high street. There are a number of walks along the Hampshire coast that follow the Solent Way that is a 60 mile footpath, this is split into stages to walk taking in views of the Isle of Wight and the beauty of the New Forest. There is also the New Forest Open top Tour bus for a more relaxing way to enjoy the countryside and it stops at many key points along the route where people can jump on or off.

Yacht building and racing is popular in Lymington and both the marina and town thrives in the summer. There are many places to eat in Lymington ranging from Indian, Chinese and British cuisine. There are many hotels and pubs in interesting and beautiful locations and a pub called The Fleur De Lys dating back to 1096.

There are many places to eat in Lymington and cafes to choose from within the town and overlooking the marina. Forest Arts is the ideal place to venture to in the heart of the New Forest in Hampshire for cultural entertainment of music,dance, exhibitions and performances to enjoy.

Brockenhurst College is the main college on the Lyndhurst Road that has centres in the surrounding areas, Lymington Centre offers a wide variety of full and part time courses in Arts & Crafts, Health & Fitness, Languages and Computing.
