Overview of Royston

The town of Royston is located Northeast of Heathrow airport a distance of 57 miles that would take around 1 hour 10 minutes by taxi via the M25. It is situated in Hertfordshire situated on the Greenwich Meridian and has a population of 14,570 according to the 2001 Census.

The town established itself at the crossing of two ancient thoroughfares, Ermine Street and Icknield Way. Due to an ancient Cross that was erected at these crossroads called the Roisia's Cross this developed into Royston after the 14th Century. The famous King James Palace is situated in the town which was famously built for the King for his hunting holidays in the area. In 1742 a chalk cave was discovered beneath the crossroads which is thought to be connected with the Knights Templar.

There are many things to do in Royston including Royston Arts Festival that is held annually, Royston Museum, Bassingbourn Snowsports Centre and Wimpole Home Farm. The town borders the counties of Cambridgshire and Bedfordshire that offer beautiful countryside and various other towns and villages of interest such as Letchworth, Cambrige and Saffron Walden.
