Overview of Brighton

The town of Brighton is located South of Heathrow Airport a distance of around 70 miles a journey that would take around 1 hour and 15 minutes by taxi. It is in the region of East Sussex and is the major part of the city of Brighton and Hove and lies on the south coast of the UK. The city has a population of 155,919 according to 2007 statistics and according to the Domesday Book was formerly known as Bristelmestune. In 1514 it was burnt to the ground during a war between England and France. The town gradually grew from the remaining building of St Nicholas Church and won the favour of the Prince Regent after a visit in 1783 who constructed the Royal Pavillion. With the establishment of the Railway along with town attractions such as the Grand Hotel, West Pier and Palace Pier the town was growing from a fishing village to a fashionable tourist destination.

Today Brighton attacts commuters, University students, shoppers and holiday makers. Its close proximity to London makes it a welcome break from city life, not far to go for Sea Air, shopping and sightseeing. The shops, restaurant, fashionable coffeeshops and nightclubs make it accessible for a wide range of tastes. Why not visit the Seafront and beach that has been awarded Blue flag status, Brighton Pier or the Brighton Museum and Art gallery. There is much entertainment around the city including cinemas, Theatres, nightclubs and festivals.

The town has many businesses involved with Media and Retail and is home to a headquarters for the company American Express. Brighton University attracts thousands of students to the city that add to the cosmopolitan feel to the city with its metropolis of independant and avant guard shops and alternative cafes and restaurants.
