Overview of Hillingdon

The London Borough of Hillingdon is located South of Luton airport a distance of 32 miles that would take around 40 minutes by taxi via the M25. It is the westernmost borough in Greater London and has a population of 275,500 according to 2011 statistics.

The area was formerly comprised of rural villages but during the suburban growth of London in the 20th century, it expanded and increased in population; becoming a municipal borough in 1955 and forming part of Greater London since 1965. The borough stretches from the Buckinghamshire border in the north to Heathrow Airport in the south and is a key gateway into West London. It is the second largest borough at 45 square miles and over half of this is Green Belt land, there are many open spaces and parks to choose from and 80 acres of Woodlands. Also located in the borough are Brunel University, RAF Airport Northolt and The Grand Union Canal.
