Overview of High Wycombe
Stansted airport is 68 miles north east of High Wycombe. It is 29 miles north-west of London. At the last census the population stood at 92,300. It is a large town in Buckinghamshire, UK. It has many affluent areas, but there is also poverty as well. It is most noted for its furniture industry, predominantly chair making!It is the only place in the world that weighs its Mayors. At the start and end of a mayors year in office, they are publically weighed to see if they have gotten fat from living off tax payers expenses!
Wycombe is named after the river Wye. Wycombe appears in the Domesday Book and was noted for having six mills.It is also one of the last places in the UK to separate school pupils by the 11+ examinations!
High Wycombe's proximity to the M40,M25, M4 and A40 means that it has excellent access to all the south of England and the capital, which takes about 1.5 hours, dependant on traffic.There are also large bus and railway stations which provide excellent transport links.
In March 2008, a new development in the town centre was completed, which has helped attract people to the town. It was called the Eden Shopping Centre, which has 107 shops, restaurants, a bowling alley and cinema. The complex is seen an a major milestone in the regeneration of the town, and is one of the largest in the country.
