Hackney will play host to parts of the 2012 Olympics in London. This will take place on the Hackney Marshes, as they have the largest expanse of football pitches in Europe! This gives plenty of space for the various events that will be taking place. The eastern part of the borough, by the River Rea will also be used in 2012, possibly for the boat racing.

Hoxton and Shoreditch are home to Hackney's art scene and these areas are undergoing redevelopment and rejuvinaion at present. Shoreditch House is a famous club, where the famous faces amoungst the art scene can oftern be found.

Famous people to come from Hackney include: Jeremy Beadle - TV Personality, Leona Lewis - Singer, Mike Reid - actor and comedian, Barbara Windsor - actress, Ray Winstone - actor, Daniel Defoe - writer and spy. The infamous Kray Brothers were born in Hoxton.
