Croydon

Croyden is the most southern of the borough's of London and is 87 km squared in area. Croydon is one of the oldest parts of the capital and is mentioned in the Domesday book of 1068.

Heathrow airport is 25 miles North West of Croyden, this journey normally take 60 minutes dependant on traffic.

In the early 1900's Croydon became famous as a centre for the Metal working industry and car manufacture. It also had a large aerodrome and during World War two it was heaverly bombed. Recently a period of reconstruction and rejuvination of the borough has been undertaken in time for the 2012 Olympics, inprovements include new cycleways and trains.

Croydon includes the areas of Waddon, South Norwood and Woodside, Purley, New Addington, Crystal Palace, Monks Orchanrd, Kenley, Hamsey Green, Wood side Green and Coulsdon. Attractions and places of interest include; the Museaum of Croydon, the Shirley Windmill, Addington Palace, the Ashcroft Theatre, the Warehouse theatre (which hosts the annual International Playwriting Festival) and the BRIT school - who famous former students include: Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, Kate Nash, Katie Melua and Dane Bowers.

Other famous residents and locals include: Allan Alberg (author of The Jolly Postman and Burgler Bill), Comediane Ronnie Corbett, Kate Moss was born there, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes books.
